Gibson in the Classroom

May 3, 2023

Gibson Energy has played a major role in the Hardisty area for the past 70 years. From our humble beginnings with 40,000 barrels of storage in the late 1950’s, to now… more than 13 million barrels of storage and growing. Hardisty has played an important role in our history and we are committed to developing alongside the community we call home.

We are proud to launch a new community program called Gibson in the Classroom. The program aims to inspire and educate students about career paths in the energy industry, specifically what career choices are available close to home.

So far this year, Gibson in the Classroom has visited Hughenden Public School, Irma School and Central High Sedgewick Public School to hold presentations for students. The presentations were followed by a lunch where students could ask questions and interact with the team.

To further support the Gibson in the Classroom program, a scholarship component was added offering two $1,500 annual scholarships to each of the participating schools. One of the two scholarships offered is designated for a female applicant to promote diversity in STEM and operations within the energy industry.

In addition to the scholarships, Gibson was able to offer First Aid Training to Central High Sedgewick’s outdoor education class. This support resulted in nine students being certified in Standard First Aid, aligning with Gibson’s commitment to safety!

Thank you to all Gibson employees involved in the creation of Gibson in the Classroom and for leading the program, developing local talent, nurturing future leaders and fostering diversity in the energy industry.
